Born in Lanarkshire and a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, his music has reached a global audience of over a billion people. Patrick has scored over 60 Hollywood movies including Harry Potter the Goblet of Fire, Cinderella, Thor, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Brave and Sense and Sensibility. His film projects have topped the box office charts in every decade of his career and his prolific contribution to film music has been widely recognised. Patrick has been nominated for two Academy Awards and two Golden Globes, one BAFTA and two Césars. He was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from Scottish BAFTA, the Henry Mancini Award from ASCAP and the PRS Award for Extraordinary Achievement in Music. In 2001 he was made a fellow of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and in 2018 he received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of the West of Scotland.
Patrick was the 2023:2024 Composer in Residence for the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and is Patron of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s Junior Orchestra. Patrick is a lifelong musical philanthropist and works tirelessly to nurture and promote Scotland’s next generation of talent. In 2023 Patrick Doyle became the first Scot in history to be invited to compose the monarch’s Coronation March, for King Charles III, which was performed live at Westminster Abbey.
