Professional recognition

Many of our programmes are accredited or approved by professional bodies, including the Royal Society of Biology, Health and Care Professions Council and the Institute of Biomedical Science.

First-class facilities

The newly-developed facilities at our Lanarkshire Campus include technology-enhanced bioscience teaching labs, specialised zoology laboratory facilities and a microbiology suite. Our cutting-edge teaching facilities also include genomic, biochemical, cell biology and advanced image analysis systems.

National Subject Rankings

The Guardian University Guide 2025 ranked Zoology as 1st in Scotland for teaching. 

Fieldwork

Our programmes offer a balance theory and practice. Many of our modules include off-campus fieldwork components. UWS students have gained practical experience in Norway, Australia and in the US. 

Real-world experience

Get hands-on experience and enhance your CV with a placement opportunity. Some of our students have worked with industry giants including BNFL, GlaxoSmithKline and British Energy in Europe, Africa and Asia.
