Enhancing Health, Performance and Community Sport

The European College of Sport Science is an international non-profit organisation, founded in Nice (France) in 1995. Through its promotion of science and research, paying particular attention to the interdisciplinary fields of sports science and sports medicine, celebrated at its annual Congress, ECSS has become one of the most respected platforms for Sports Science in the world.

In its dedication ‘to lead the promotion and application of world-class, multidisciplinary science in sport and exercise’, ECSS has been at the heart of sports science research and development, helping to create productive academic and industry based networks that challenge and push the progression of new and exciting discoveries in the field of sports science.

ECSS Glasgow 2024 will be the 29th annual ECSS Congress, bringing together academics and industry representatives from over 70 countries. With its theme of ‘Enhancing Health, Performance and Community Sport’ focussing on three strands of Social Sciences and Humanities, Physiology and Sports Medicine, and Biomechanics and Neuromuscular, the ECSS Glasgow Congress will provide an exciting scientific offer including plenaries, invited sessions and the prestigious Young Investigators Award.

Sport Science at UWS

Sport and exercise science laboratory at UWS Lanarkshire Campus.

The School of Health & Life Sciences is the largest faculty of its kind in Scotland offering a variety of innovative courses in nursing, life sciences and sport. Our sport and exercise science courses have been developed in collaboration with industrial, local authority and educational partners creating career-focused programmes, These courses are delivered from our cutting edge teaching and research laboratories at our new modern Lanarkshire Campus.

The facilities include teaching labs for physiology, biomechanics, physical therapy and include our state of the art environmental chamber. In addition we have research labs for physiology, cardiology and biochemistry. For practical teaching we have our onsite gym, the world class Emirates Arena as well as placement opportunities with a number of local authorities, sports clubs and schools.
