About
The University recognises the impact that its operations have on the natural environment. Our new developing Sustainability Plan has Biodiversity and Environmental Adaptation as a key theme, with a respective action plan also in development.
Our recently launched iNaturalist site allows you to document and share the plant and animal life which we share our campuses with. Here you can access campus pages for Ayr, Lanarkshire, and Paisley.
Our campuses have a wide range of environments, some more wild and rugged than others. We've pulled together areas of interest where you might find a greater abundance and diversity of plants and animals. Make sure you stay safe when exploring!

Ayr Campus SuDS pond
The Ayr campus has a sustainable urban drainage (SuDS) pond.
The pond acts as a natural drainage system, reduces surface water flooding and enhances the amenity and biodiversity of the local environment.
Ayr campus riparian
The river Ayr flanks our campus and the transition area along the river bank is called the Riparian.
These habitats can often be home to an interesting mix of species, traversing between the water and land.
Paisley Campus Flower Bank
Located beside the outdoor gym in Paisley is a bank of wild planting, when flowering in the Spring the area is popular for pollinators.
