Short Courses & CPD
We offer training in a range of creative media disciplines externally across private, public and third sector companies. Our staff offer a wide range of expertise, including writing press statements, performing in front of a TV camera, interview techniques for radio and television, sports journalism and live commentating. All training can be arranged at our Ayr and Paisley campuses, at your company premises or where appropriate in our seminar room in Film City.
Media Training
Media training is about getting your key messages across: how to interest news and features editors in local and national media; how to build better relations with the media; and how to perform effectively in front of the TV camera, in a live radio studio interview and in an online and social media environment.
We can run bespoke, tailored courses on media training for individuals, organisations and companies in a wide arena of media scenarios. Our media training courses are led by UWS journalists who have backgrounds working for BBC News, Question Time, The Herald and The Scotsman, as well as on a consultancy basis for politicians, local councils, cultural organisations and many other private individuals, including Paisley 2021, East Ayrshire Council, Renfrewshire Council and Prince’s Trust.
We offer our premium media training at the University of the West of Scotland’s purpose built £81 million facility in Ayr, featuring two TV studios and six radio studios.
We also offer media training (without the studio experience) on our campus in Paisley, at our Glasgow venues, or on your company premises.
