About the company
WellFish Tech, a spin-out from the University of the West of Scotland (UWS), established itself as a leader in fish health monitoring through innovative, non-lethal blood biomarker technology. Recognising the critical need for robust data infrastructure, the company focused on developing a system for efficient data retrieval and analysis, anticipating future integration with AI platforms.
In September 2022, WellFish Tech partnered with UWS to appoint Dr Aboua Ange Kevin N'Da as their first data scientist through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) funded by Innovate UK.
Dr N'Da's expertise was crucial in curating and analysing data to generate valuable health insights. This data-driven approach has enabled WellFish Tech to provide comprehensive health reports to biologists and empower fish farm managers with actionable insights, significantly enhancing decision-making and reducing risks.
WellFish Tech successfully secured a second Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with UWS. This new project, in collaboration with the School of Health & Life Sciences, aims to integrate advanced molecular biology techniques and develop non-lethal PCR methods for blood serum sampling. The goal is to enhance the monitoring and improvement of fish health through innovative, non-invasive approaches.
KTP Aim
The aim of the KTP project with the School of Computing, Engineering & Physical Sciences and WellFish Tech is to advance digitisation and integrate AI knowledge and expertise to improve fish health diagnostics and prognostics in the global aquaculture sector.
KTP Associate
Mustafa Hussain joined the KTP project in July 2024, taking over as KTP Associate from Dr N’Da, and has been working to integrate into the team and advance the project’s goals.
The KTP project is a valuable addition to my professional development, as I aim to advance my career in data and artificial intelligence. This project provides the benefit of industry experience and the opportunity to work on real-time projects.
