UWS ONLINE PLATFORMS AND SYSTEMS
At UWS there are a number of systems that you will use throughout your time with us. This page is intended to help you familiarise yourself with each of them.
Your Student Email Account and Microsoft 365
All UWS students are provided with a Microsoft 365 email and Teams account to communicate and collaborate with fellow students and lecturers.
Your UWS student email address is in the format BannerID@studentmail.uws.ac.uk. Check your emails regularly – this is where all your UWS communications will be sent.
Log in to office.com with your full UWS email address and network password to access Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook plus additional learning and collaboration tools. Once enrolled, students can download the Office apps on up to five personal devices free of charge.
Account Security and Multi Factor Authentication
All UWS students should set up Multi Factor Authentication – this adds an additional "Second Factor" layer of security by requiring an extra step to validate your login when accessing your University email, Teams, OneDrive files and calendar.
This extra step makes it more difficult for someone else to access your account, even if they discover your username and password. Once you have the Authenticator app set up on your mobile device, you can use it to change your password any time you need to.
You must keep your email and Microsoft 365 account secure. Ensure that you:
- Log out of your account when not in use
- Protect your password
- Protect your email account on mobile devices
- Do not click on links or open attachments in emails unless you are 100% confident that you can trust the sender
The UWS Student App
This is your student portal which is packed with features to help you in your UWS journey once you are enrolled. The UWS Student App is the place to go to find everything! Features include campus information, your digital ID card, timetables, sports, careers, support and links to systems.
Aula
Aula is your Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). An online learning platform where you will find resources related to your course and information from your lecturers. It is important that you visit this website regularly and participate in activities set for your classes. You can access Aula through the UWS Student App.
Self Service Banner
The student information system - Self Service Banner - holds a record of your UWS journey from enrolling to exam results to graduating. You can access Self Service Banner through the ‘My Student Record’ tile in the UWS Student App.
You will receive a note of your student Banner ID in your welcome email – it is in the format B00xxxxxx. You will use your Banner ID or student email address and network password to log in to UWS systems.
Support
Once enrolled, you will have access to the Self-Service Portal and the Student Support site where you will find information about support and systems that are available to you, such as wifi, printing, library services, loan laptops, student services and student administration.
