Roadmap for New Students
Starting a degree can feel overwhelming. There is so much information provided to you, our new students, that it is easy to get lost along the way. We have created the following roadmap to help you successfully navigate your way through those first few weeks.
STUDENT ENROLMENT AND INDUCTIONS
Our student enrolment and induction pages provide the latest information on what to expect when you join UWS.
I'm at University, what now?
There are a few basic things that will put you on the right path early on. Keep calm and get through the checklist.
Time to focus
It’s Week 3 of term - it’s time to focus and do some planning.
Remember, you should have completed your enrolment by the end of Week 2. If you've still to complete your enrolment, contact your School to discuss possible Late Enrolment opportunities.
I might need some help
Keep calm and stay the course. There are tools that can help you keep on the path.
I’ve spent all my money
It’s that time in the year when you realise you need to not only plan your studies, but also manage your money. Do not despair. Use some of the tools below to plan both your finances and your studies.
Where did the time go?
Much of your learning at university is done independently. Make the most of your time and make good use of the numerous support services available to you.
Taking it to the next level
Your university life will be recorded in your individual Higher Education Achievement Record (HEAR) transcript.
You can enhance your HEAR by taking part in extra-curricular activities, such as sports and volunteering. Take advantage of all the opportunities available at UWS.
Mid-trimester break
There might not be much teaching during this week. However, there's still plenty you can do to support your studies.
Staying positive
It’s cold outside and it’s getting darker. Keep away the winter blues by staying positive.
You’re in the home stretch
You've been working so hard. You have met new people, made new friends and have completed all your assignments on time. You're taking the first steps to becoming an independent learner. The good news is that the trimester is nearly over - you're nearly there!
Preparing for exams
You've made it, it's the end of the trimester. You may have a few exams or you may have had assignments throughout the trimester.
Do not worry if you still have final exams though. You've done all of the hard the work and are in a good place. However, help is always available should you need it.
