Public policy expert and University of the West of Scotland (UWS) academic, Professor Margaret Arnott, has been awarded a Fellowship by the Academy of Social Sciences.
Professor Arnott’s research expertise include territorial politics and governance, constitutional politics and Scottish politics. She also has a particular interest in the politics of education policy and has extensively researched education policy making.
She has research experience of Scottish/UK politics and has undertaken externally funded research in her areas of expertise, including an Economic and Social Research Council funded project exploring education and nationalism under the SNP Devolved Government since 2007.
Professor Arnott joined UWS as Professor of Public Policy in 2013. Previously she was Professor of Public Policy at Glasgow Caledonian University. Over the past twenty-five years she has also held posts at University of Edinburgh and the University of Birmingham.
Professor Arnott is also an Associate Director of the Centre for Families and Relationships, which is a consortium of universities focusing on applied policy research around families and relationships.

64 Fellowships were handed out to outstanding social scientists elected from 32 UK organisations, comprising 28 Higher Education Institutions, as well as think tanks, non-profits and business, and overseas institutions.

The Academy’s Fellowship comprises 1,600 leading social scientists from academia, the public, private and third sectors. All Academy Fellows are elected for excellence in their fields and their substantial contributions to social science for public benefit. Selection is through an independent peer review which recognises both excellence and impact.
