The Centre for Migration, Diaspora, Citizenship and Identity Conference welcomes diverse, interdisciplinary, traditional and non-traditional contributions that focus on the intersectionality of the ideas of moving, being and belonging in contemporary world.
The proposed submissions should engage with the following conference themes:
This theme seeks contributions that focus on exploring how migration and mobility intersect with the practices and experiences of being and belonging. The contributions can unpack these intersections by focusing on issues and patterns of inequality, inclusion and exclusion; representations, rhetoric and discourses around migration and belonging; politics of migration and belonging; or social activism and advocacy movement.
This theme seeks contributions that consider diaspora from a variety of perspectives and may draw upon diaspora and migrant communities globally. It may include transnational identities, cultural exchanges, homelands and settler communities, strategies, policies, and political developments, and consider how diasporas and the idea of diasporas impact and inform our world.
This theme seeks contributions across the broad theme of citizenship in all its contemporary forms and behaviours. This can feature works that focus on participation as form of the being and belonging across borders, nationalities and states, exploring issues and practices of engagement and (dis)engagement in a diverse forms of citizenship practices.
This theme seeks contributions that consider how identity can be used to re-imagine or contest aspects of being today, and how Identity represents or is represented as a socio/economic/political or cultural challenge. Works that consider identity broadly or intersect with wider aspects of moving and belonging are specifically encouraged. Ideas involving religion, politics, media, rhetoric and leadership are urged.
This theme seeks contributions that address and capture the conference theme of moving, being and belonging employing novel, non-traditional, or exploratory methodological styles.
This open theme seeks contributions that involve our themes and Centre pillars from any areas of interest. CMDCI welcomes input from a wide variety of stakeholders. Academics and practitioners.

Centre for Migration, Diaspora, Citizenship and Identity
Founded in 2022, the Centre for Migration, Diaspora, Citizenship & Identity brings together interdisciplinary scholars, and key stakeholders in order to help shape public awareness, inform policy, generate high quality research, and support best practice around migration processes, diaspora movements, citizenship, and identity. Based in Scotland, which is leading discussions, actions, and policies on a number of these fronts, our work and focus is nonetheless global in outlook and consideration.
At CMDCI we seek to facilitate dialogue, as well as advocate for, and strengthen, evidence-based analysis and discourse around the nexus of migration, diaspora, citizenship and identity in the contemporary world. The Centre includes academic members from a range of backgrounds and specialisations, who are actively involved in research across a variety of projects. CMDCI is based within the University of the West of Scotland, School of Education and Social Sciences, but we encourage and maintain strong links with colleagues across diverse stakeholders working in the themes of migration, diaspora, citizenship and identity.
