develop your English language skills
To cater for the needs of students whose first language is not English, we offer Pre-Sessional English courses to enable students to meet the English language entry requirements for their chosen programme at UWS. We also offer In-Sessional English modules for students who are currently studying on UWS programmes, and who would like to continue developing their English language skills.
All classes are taught by highly-qualified and experienced English language teachers. Both online and on-campus study options are available, with a maximum class size of 20 students in each group.
Pre-Sessional English
Our 5-week and 10-week Pre-Sessional English courses normally take place between May and August, with online and on-campus study options available. We also offer longer courses for students who need more time to achieve the required level. For more information about Pre-Sessional English study options, please follow the links below:
In-Sessional English
The following modules are available for students who want to develop their English skills while following a study programme at UWS:
- English for Academic Purposes
- Advanced English 1 & 2
- General Academic English Proficiency 1 & 2
- Cultural Studies for Learners of English 1 & 2
- English for International Academic Practices
With each module, students attend one 3-hour workshop per week (usually from 09.00-12.00 or 13.00-16.00), and complete additional tasks in their own time, which are supported through the university’s virtual learning environment, Aula. To find out more about the content and assessment of each module, please contact us.
Tuition Fees
If a module is part of your current study programme, there is no extra cost to enrol. Free places are also available to the first 50 students who enrol on English language modules each term. Other students can enrol on these modules by paying the standard single-module fee.
