BIOTECH GLOBETROTTER
MSc Biotechnology graduate Dr. Md. Rashedul Islam has travelled all over the world to gain his academic awards, and it was the booming global population and subsequent demand for food, fuel, disease-free life, safer agriculture and a clean and green environment that sparked his interest in the subject area.
“The MSc Biotechnology course at UWS provided me with the opportunity to enhance research skills in using biological principles and systems to create new products, services and industries,” says Dr. Rashed. “It also helped me to think about the economic basis of current biotechnology and areas of future demand."

And Dr. Rashed is positive it was the right decision for him. “I found the course both contemporary and relevant to the demands of today’s biotechnology industry. The knowledge and experience of lecturers combined with cutting-edge technology and the hands-on experience in the laboratories made studying at UWS very beneficial to me.”
Since graduating a few years ago, Dr. Rashed has gone on to add to his MSc award from UWS. While studying with us he had the opportunity to undertake a PhD at Kyushu University in Japan on a Japanese Government Scholarship and recently he has completed a Postdoctoral research degree at the University of Kansas Medical Centre, USA, focusing on female reproductive physiology.
Now working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Genetics and Animal Breeding at Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University in Bangladesh, Dr. Rashed is thankful he made the decision to study the MSc Biotechnology at UWS. “I am in no doubt that the course content and practical training I was able to undertake during my Masters made me confident enough to enter a career in research and teaching in advanced biotechnology.”
