Engineering a bright future at UWS

Michael Sinclair has been with Ferguson Marine in Port Glasgow for eight years and is currently employed as a Project Manager. He joined the University’s BEng (Hons) Engineering Design & Manufacture Graduate Apprenticeship programme in 2017.

Michael’s previous qualifications and industry experience allowed him to join the programme in second year.

He said: “I studied a Modern Apprenticeship before and this was a natural follow on for me to continue to develop my skills. Being able to combine the next level of theoretical learning with practical application in the workplace made the Graduate Apprenticeship the perfect choice for me.

“It has really helped me in my role at work as it has given me greater confidence in my abilities to lead on tasks and get involved in activities that I was not capable of before joining the programme.

“Combining an honours level engineering qualification with work experience makes a very valuable industry employee.”

Michael graduated with First Class Honours in 2020 and hopes to continue his learning journey in the future.
