Project Management graduate secures dream job

MSc Project Management graduate Amina Mehmood has secured her dream role as a Lecturer at University of the West of Scotland (UWS) thanks to her studies at the University.

Amina, who is originally from Pakistan, already had a Masters degree and a strong background in research but she was keen to undertake a postgraduate degree in the UK to build on her skills and experience.

Amina said: “I was particularly interested in undertaking a postgraduate course that would help me improve my interpersonal skills such as critical thinking, leadership, flexibility and communication, whilst also focusing on learning research-related modules. Regardless of your field of expertise, I believe that having strong research and transferable skills is essential for finding a good job.

“I looked into the course content of competing universities across the country and the University’s MSc Project Management seemed like the ideal choice thanks to its diverse range of modules.

“UWS excels where many other universities still fall short by offering students modern, career-relevant, high quality teaching, alongside innovative, internationally recognised research.

“During the course I had the opportunity to present at an international conference and gained exposure to the global research community and its wide range of perspectives.”

After successfully completing MSc Project Management Amina started a PhD in Business Management at UWS.

Now in the second year of her PhD, Amina added: “UWS provided me with the opportunity to apply for the post of associate lecturer during the first year of my PhD. This then opened the door to apply to become a full-time lecturer, which I secured and took up in September.

“The impact that UWS had on my life has been enormous. My Masters degree and PhD have set me on my dream career path. I am living my dream thanks to UWS.”
