Every year, thousands of students from across the world choose to study in London, and follow their “London Dream”.
When I decided to embark upon my doctoral research journey with the University of the West of Scotland, I became one of them, writes Rabia Arshad.
London is an incredibly exciting city – it’s multi-cultural, it has great opportunities and has what I can only describe as the “London vibe”.
I know how difficult it can be to decide where to study, so I wanted to write a blog post, explaining why you might want to study at the (really, really amazing) UWS London campus.
1. London is a world-class student city – with loads to do
London is a top study destination – packed with international and home students. There’s a real buzz about the place, and so many places to visit and enjoy. The UWS London campus is a stone’s throw away from the O2, countless cafes, bars and restaurants and, if you’re a comic book fan, the Marvel Avengers Station. You’ll also find lots of study spaces and libraries, with a variety of great student societies.
2. It’s multicultural
London is so diverse and multicultural that it makes you feel at home, no matter where you’re from. You get to meet people from various ethnic, cultural and economic backgrounds, and learn about different cultures and traditions. There are plenty of pros of living with diversity and there is something for everyone- a chance to learn different languages, a variety of foods to try and the opportunity to make friends with people from all over the world.
3. There are lots of job and networking opportunities
London offers a plethora of opportunities, whether someone is looking for part time work during their studies, an internship or a full-time job after graduation, there are plenty of opportunities for everyone, and if you have entrepreneurial spirit, UWS London Campus is setting up a business incubator for students who intend to start their own business.
London offers a wide range of networking events and opportunities for everyone. Living in a diverse city means you get to meet interesting strangers, learn from their experiences, and expand your perspectives.
4. The “London vibe”
It is a vibrant city full of life and energy. The streets are always buzzing with excitement. It makes you feel alive and energetic. There is so much to do, and so much to explore – you won’t ever feel bored. The student community in London really feels like a community – it’s so welcoming and friendly.
5. It broadens your horizons
Living in London is like stepping into a wider world of different cultures and ethnicities. The diverse environment makes you more open-minded, tolerant, understanding, and a truly enlightened person.
