Our MEd Education Studies is offered as a part-time, fully online programme taught over 3-6 years. It offers existing education practitioners the opportunity to study Education at Masters level where you can apply your learning to your professional context.
This Masters framework is focused on preparing students to make a difference in their professional educational/training setting and beyond. Teaching and learning is underpinned by cutting edge research, informed by a national and global perspective.
You can exit with a generic award of MEd Education Studies or you can complete one of the named specialisms available (see below for full details of each named specialism):
This pathway is intended for teachers and other professionals working with learners in primary, secondary and tertiary education as well as practitioners working within other educational and training contexts. It is intended for professionals who wish to undertake modules across the named specialisms.
This specialism is intended for teachers and other professionals working with learners in primary, secondary and tertiary education as well as practitioners working within other educational and training contexts who are involved in working in creative and expressive art.
It is intended for those education professionals that are interested in developing their understanding of working creatively with their learners. It will enhance professional practice in, and understanding of, current developments in the area of creativity in general and in terms of pedagogy, policy and practice specifically.

It will enhance professional practice in, and understanding of, current developments in the area of educational leadership.

Teaching and learning opportunities focus on the nature of mental health in educational (learning, teaching, training, and mentoring) environments, exploring how this might impact on learners, leaders of learning, mentors, psychologists, health professionals, managers and social workers.

Graduates of the UWS PGDE Primary or Secondary who gained SCQF Level 11 credits in the course of their PGDE will be able to enter the programme with advanced standing.
For applicants whose first language is not English, the University sets a minimum English Language proficiency level. The qualifications below must have been gained within two years of the start of your course.
General English language requirements at UWS: International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic module (not General Training)
Exceptions to this level of IELTS scoring exist for some accredited or professionally-recognised courses (see section below for more details).

For international students, the Home Office has confirmed that the University can choose to use TOEFL to make its own assessment of English language ability for visa applications to degree level courses. We therefore still accept TOEFL tests taken in the last two years for admission to this programme.
West African Senior School Certificate of Education (WASSCE) including acceptance of WAEC Scratchcard*
*UWS will accept a WAEC scratchcard confirming that an applicant has achieved C6 or above as evidence of meeting English language requirement from Nigeria if the student graduated within the last 5 years. After 5 years applicants would be required to provide the WAEC Certificate.

This version of the MEd Education Studies is delivered fully online.
There are three distinct exit stages: Postgraduate Certificate - PgCert - (60 credits), Postgraduate Diploma - PgDip - (additional 60 credits), and MEd (additional 60 credits).
You will study one core and two optional modules, which you will select based on your specialism and interests, to achieve the Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert).

Most of our MEd students are already in professional employment in an education or training context.
For these students, these qualifications offer an opportunity for further professional development opportunities that will enhance a CV and underpin opportunities for promotion or broadening of employment opportunities.
There are also opportunities for graduates to commence PhD research.
All students should apply directly to the University through our online application system. Before you apply, you should check that you meet our entry requirements and you should have all your supporting documents ready.
The first stage of the process is to complete the initial application form. You will then receive a follow-up email with further instructions relating to your application including documents that you will need to forward to support your application, e.g. degree transcripts and certificates etc.
Most courses don't have a formal closing date, but they will close when they are full; apply early to avoid disappointment. There may also be funding deadlines that apply to you.
The Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) applies to all international students and researchers (apart from exempt nationalities) who are subject to UK immigration control and are intending to study or research at postgraduate level in certain sensitive subjects.
Students and researchers who are nationals of EU countries, the European Economic Area (EEA), Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland or the United States of America do not need an ATAS certificate.
An ATAS certificate may be required for certain taught postgraduate master's degrees for international students at UWS.
