Industrial collaboration
UWS has links with over 70 companies for input to our industrial advisory board. They provide project and employment opportunities for our students.
We have partnerships with IBM, Qualcomm, NASA, CERN, Rolls Royce, QinetiQ, BAE Systems, NATS, Thales and many local and national SMEs.
We also work in close partnership with colleagues in universities across the world.
Research expertise
UWS have a proven track record in knowledge and technology transfer in applied research, training and consultancy. Recent research and industrial collaboration successes include:
- Playing an internationally leading role in 5G and 6G research and development in the areas of network monitoring, management, automation and intelligence. We led Phase-1 (SELFNET) and Phase-2 (SliceNet) of €15 million EU projects. We are currently involved in three 5G and 6G projects totalling €18 million
- Operating and leading the Scottish Centre for Enabling Technologies (SCET). This commercial unit carries out projects for major organisations that include the NHS
- Partnering with FIDO Tech, a company using artificial intelligence (AI) to save billions of litres of water, to further enhance its technology. FIDO Tech is helping communities affected by water shortages and restrictions around the world
