Entry Requirements
Postgraduate Research students work at the forefront of their academic subject and contribute to the advancement of knowledge.
To be a successful researcher, you must be passionate about your subject area, with enthusiasm for research and analysis, and the motivation to manage a personal learning programme. You will have already demonstrated research aptitude in undergraduate or masters-level studies.
Entry onto a postgraduate research degree normally requires you to have obtained a good Honours degree (First or Upper Second Class) or a postgraduate taught or research qualification in a relevant area of study.
English Language Requirements
To get the best results from your studies, it is essential that you have a good command of English. All International students are required to meet English Language requirements outlined by UWS, with the exception of:
- Native Speakers of English
- Erasmus students (unless advised otherwise)
- Non-Erasmus students from EU partner institutions (you may provide a statement from your institution confirming English language ability in place of a formal qualification)
If you do not fit in to any of the above categories you are required to provide proof of your English language ability through a SELT (secure English language test). UWS requires an IELTS score of 6.5 or above (with no no component below 6.0). IELTS tests should normally be taken no more than two years before applying to UWS.
Visit the UKVI website for full, up-to-date details of English language requirements.
