How to make the most of your time at UWS
Contrary to popular belief, university is a whole lot more than books, exams and revision. Building connections and going on new adventures is a huge part of the university experience.
However, meeting new people and trying new things can be, well, daunting. But fear not. We’ve got some great ideas to kickstart your social life and make the most of your time at UWS.
Welcome Week
The best thing about Welcome Week? Pretty much everybody is in the same boat. No, really. Look around. We guarantee most folk attending Welcome Week will be navigating the choppy waters of crippling nervous anxiety.
Welcome Week, then, is the perfect opportunity to do lots of meeting and greeting. Why? Because there’s no judgement. Everybody there wants to meet new people, find their tribe. So, dive in and get involved in the different events and activities. It really is the best way to kickstart your #LifeAtUWS.

Clubs and societies
With a whole host of clubs and societies to choose from at UWS, you'll quickly find people with similar interests.
Beyond the social aspect, being part of a club and society can seriously enhance your employability. We’re talking Leadership skills. Communication. Project Management Collaboration. Biceps. (Okay, that last one only applies to UWS Sport societies).
Becoming a member of a UWS club or society can build your professional network. It can also lead to the creation of some very wholesome and life-long friendships. Check out the UWS Student Union and UWS Sport pages for more details on how to join a UWS club or society.
Volunteer
In our humble opinion, volunteering is one of the most rewarding university experiences. Why?
Well, first, it’s a great opportunity to meet new people. Secondly, volunteering in and around our campuses means you can learn more about the issues impacting our local communities. And as a volunteer, you can help drive positive change in the local area. How cool is that?
You’ll also develop some impressive skills that will undoubtedly help you after you graduate. Discover more about volunteering at UWS on the UWS Student Union page.
Do something that fills your cup
University can be stressful. Deadlines. Exams. Grades. Listen, it’s a lot. To ensure you have the most positive university experience, it’s important to look beyond your studies and find something that fills your proverbial cup.
If culture is your bag, our campuses all have thriving live music and arts scenes. If fitness brings you joy, check out UWS Sport. Our gyms are free for UWS students. Our campuses are also home to the most scenic beaches and country parks. A brisk walk along the shores can be the perfect tonic to kickstart your day.
There’s so much to do - get pouring!
