University can be a busy old time. Attending lectures. Meeting deadlines. Studying for exams and pub quizzes. It can be a precarious juggling act, with many a plate spinning. Often, your health is pushed far down the priority list when life gets busy.
So, how do we ensure that we stay well whilst at university? We’re sharing our top tips on how to look after your fitness and health as a UWS student.
Eat well
Listen, we get it. You’ve had a long day at lectures. Your energy levels are depleted. And you want fed, like, yesterday. However, the best thing you can do for yourself (and your bank balance) is to steer clear of junk food as much as possible.
Why not batch cook? Do a big food shop at the weekend to stock up on fresh fruit and vegetables. Then, dedicate a couple of hours on a Sunday to cooking batches of nutritious food. We’re talking overnight oats, soups, chilis, curries, pastas. And, voila! Your breakfasts, lunches and dinners are organised for the week ahead. Yaldy.
Stay active
From competitive teams to on-campus gyms, UWS Sport has everything you need to get active. Their fitness classes are brilliant at helping to maintain your fitness. Remember, UWS Sport is free for all UWS students.
Walking is also another effective way to stay fit and healthy. Consider cycling or walking to your classes, where possible. A walk to campus every day can massively increase your step count, without you even having to think about it.
Digital detox
Switching off your screens for a couple of hours each day is beneficial for your wellbeing. Instead of doomsday scrolling on your phone, get outdoors. Read a book. Cook. Heck, be bored. Yes, honestly. Boredom is an immensely underrated pastime in today's busy, technology-focused world. Unplugging your devices will work wonders for your mental health and wellbeing.
Sleep on it - no literally
There’s no negotiation when it comes to sleep and wellbeing. The quality of our sleep affects everything, from our appetite to our mood to our immune systems. Prioritise your shuteye. Aim for around eight to nine hours of sleep every night. Go to bed and wake up around the same time every day, as much as possible.
UWS Student Hub
Need support during your time at UWS? Our Student Hub can support with any questions you may have during your student journey. There’s a Student Hub on every campus.
